I’m at the very beginning of my formal TCM studies, but its philosophy feels like home—like remembering a language I’ve always spoken. Before Empress Wu Apothecary, my life was already woven with herbalism, formulation, storytelling and a long chapter in the fashion world. Now I live on a farm in the Adelaide Hills, where I distill plants into hydrosols, tend to bees, and work with post‑brood honeycomb wax, venom, propolis and royal jelly. These become quiet spells folded into each formula. I believe in yang sheng—nourishing life—and that women at any age can carry a vital spark when they tend to their inner climate. Through ritual and daily practice, I want to show that skin isn’t a problem to fix, but a mirror of how we live. My fascination with Empress Wu Zetian began when I learned that her story truly bloomed in the “second spring” of her life. She reminds me that the body is an empire, and we are each allowed to rule our own. Empress Wu Apothecary is my way of bottling that world: seasonal, limited‑edition rituals inspired by Tang‑dynasty herbs, the five elements and the turning of the seasons—honouring the weather outside by tending the weather within.
